Your Customers Want a Reply, Not a Performance
Brands sometimes speak on social media like they have climbed onto a stage.
Every sentence is polished. Every announcement is official. Every caption sounds as if it has been approved by a committee that banned contractions.
Meanwhile, the customer just wants to know whether the blue one comes in a medium.
Research consistently shows the value of responding. Sprout Social found that consumers most often identified customer response as the behavior making a brand memorable on social. It ranked above publishing volume and participating in trends.
In a major academic study, MIS Quarterly researchers analyzed 10,312 business posts and more than one million comments to examine how user comments and company responses affect the engagement that follows.
Buffer found a similar pattern on Instagram. Across more than 700,000 posts, posts with creator replies performed 21% better relative to the same accounts’ normal results. The association does not prove that replies alone caused the improvement, but it reinforces a very human idea: people notice when someone talks back.
This is one reason reducing production work matters. If writing, designing, resizing, and scheduling consume all the available social-media time, there is nothing left for conversation.
GigaDrip can help with the production side. The business owner can then spend more energy answering the medium-size question, thanking someone for a thoughtful comment, or clarifying the detail that might help a customer decide.
You do not need to perform “brand engagement.” You need to be present, useful, and recognizable as a person on the other side of the account.
